Swim Section
The swim will begin with a “time trial” start. Swimmers will enter the water one at a time, separated by 10 seconds. Swimmers will switch lanes by going under the lane line at the end of each 50-meter length. Swimmers are to stay to the right of the lane unless passing another participant.

At the end of the eighth length (400 meters) the swimmers will exit the pool and proceed through the gate to their designated spot in the transition area. At the transition spot, swimmer will pass the timing chip to the cyclist.

Bike Section
Cyclists will walk/run their bike to the mount/dismount area at the end of the transition area. Upon mounting the bike, cyclists will move to the right of Lake Newport Rd.

Turning right onto Reston Parkway, bikers are to stay to the right of the cones for approximately 100 meters to allow for a smooth and safe merge with cyclists who may already be on the course. The cyclists already on the course will be keeping to the left. During the ride, course marshals will direct you at turns.

Police will control traffic at major intersections.

At the end of the first and second laps, while approaching Lake Newport Rd, bikers are to move to the left side of the coned lane to avoid potential conflict with those beginning the bike portion of the event.

When approaching the end of Lap #3, move to the right of the coned section and turn right onto Lake Newport Rd.

Slow for dismount, at area where you mounted your bike (this is slightly downhill so be cautious about speed), and then walk/run your bike back to your individual transition spot and pass the timing chip to the runner.

Review the cycling rules on the USAT website, Article V: Cycling Conduct, especially the rules about drafting and passing .

Run Section
Runners will exit the transition area at the end adjacent to where swimmers exited the pool area. The run course is entirely on black-topped and paved pathways.

Course marshals will be in place to direct runners at each turn.
Police will control traffic at the intersection of North Village and Center Harbor and at Center Harbor and Wiehle Ave.

Runners are to stay on the right as the first and third miles will have two-way traffic since this is an out and back course.

Upon completion of the run, team members should meet up and report to the designated area adjacent to the transition area/pool to receive their finisher medals.
