The YMCA Fairfax County Reston’s reach into our community is broad. We work every day to support families in our area, create healthy lifestyles, and raise happy productive children. With a membership of more than 12,500 people—our cause is to strengthen the community.

Youth Development
The Y works to enhance the lives of children and youth so they can gain self-confidence and grow as responsible citizens of the community, while achieving physical wellness. At the YMCA Metropolitan Washington there is:

  • Nearly 6,000 summer camp experiences
  • More than 2,000 youth—from infants to teens—learn lifesaving aquatics skills
  • The Y’s Preschool nurtures early development of infants, toddlers and children
  • The 21st Century after school program at Dogwood Elementary School fosters greater academic enrichment
  • A new Youth & Government program empowers teens

Healthy Living
Leading a healthy lifestyle is a desire that the Y aims to establish in every child, adult and family. The Y gives all Fairfax County residents an opportunity to engage in positive, impactful behaviors to become more active and build rewarding relationships. At the YMCA Metropolitan Washington:

  • Children, seniors and adults stay connected, healthy and active
  • Members engage in more than 5,000 hours of personal training
  • Member seminars focus on healthy living, work/life balance and life skills
  • Parents create memorable shared experiences and build bonds with children
  • Our PHD (Physical, Healthy, Driven) program provides physical activity for our youth
  • DPP (Diabetes Prevention Program) helps those at risk adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles

Social Responsibility
As a charitable organization, the Y focuses on giving back and providing support to our neighbors and community. Through our Caring for Community scholarship campaign, families and individuals can join the Y and discover how to live a healthy lifestyle, while learning the importance of serving others in our community.

  • Partnerships with local organizations address pressing social issues
  • Members “Send a Kid to Camp” and sponsor healthy play and nutrition
  • Military Outreach Initiative offers support for families of deployed military personnel
  • Youth and adults dedicate thousands of hours of volunteer service with the Y
  • More than $3 Million in scholarships granted via Caring for Community Program

The YMCA Fairfax County Reston’s Caring for Community Scholarship Program provides financial assistance for families and individuals who are unable to afford quality child care, summer camp, memberships and other programs and services. Since its opening in 2000, the YMCA Fairfax County Reston has awarded over $3 million in scholarships. Last year, the YMCA Fairfax County Reston provided over $444,000 in scholarships to community members children, adults and families in need.
